Job purpose & objectives:
The field -based role focuses on medical and scientific engagement with AbbVie stakeholders (including research and healthcare professionals, payers, and providers).
The focus of this role is on interacting with, and supporting the needs of, Tier1 and 2 External Experts . MSLswork to communicate information and facilitate dialogue about AbbVie’s marketed products, and compounds in development , in a strictly scientific, non-promotional manner. MSLs also participate in the initiation, oversight and follow-up of clinical studies and field medical projects initiated within the Medical Department.
MSL also interface with other key members of the affiliate medical department (Medical Managers, Medical Advisers, Clinical Research Managers) and work collaboratively and cross-functionally with other in-field members such as InField Product Specialist and with other Brand Team members (Market Access, BUM, Public Policy Manager,…)
Tasks and responsibilities
Provide scientific and technical leadership to ensure professional andcredible relationships with thought leaders and external experts of strategic importance to Abbvie.
Assist in the initiation,oversight and follow up of assigned clinicalstudies and medical projects initiated within the therapeutic area for which the MSL carries responsibility(e.g. post marketing clinical activities such as registry/database projects,epidemiological surveys, post-authorization studies (phase IV).
Serve as a point of contact within the Medical Affairs team for thought leadersand external experts within anassigned geographic area in order to satisfy their needs for scientificknowledge in a therapeutic area and, when requested, relevant AbbVie medicines,to support their safe, effective and appropriate use.
Upon request, assist physicianswith requests for access to AbbViemedicines on a named patient or compassionate use basis, subject to all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Deliver credible p resentations on scientific matters tophysicians, individually or in groups (meetings, clinical sessions, etc.),where requested, but with the focus on Tier1 and 2 external experts.
Provide key thought leaders /external experts and internal medical and clinical teams with scientific andtechnical support for publications of scientific or medical interest.
Support internal teams such assales and marketing and members of the Affiliate Brand Team to develop their scientific and technical expertisethrough the delivery of scientific update presentations.Work collaboratively and cross-functionallywith other in-field members whileretaining functional independence.
Facilitate medical and scientific field intell igence – forexample, competitor research and medical strategies, educational activities –and communicate, where appropriate, within the Company.
Attend relevant scientificmeetings and Conferences.Collaboratewith internal stakeholders to develop summaries of key data and otherscientifically relevant information to inform Abbvie strategic priorities andinitiatives.
Supportive collaboration withClinical Research and development team to facilitate successful set up of studiesand related recruitment.
Developing expertise in specificrelevant therapeutic area , attending scientific society meetings and local,global scientific medical meetings
Developing preliminary contacts inEEs and identifying UMN in specific disease, gaining scientific expertise tosupport market access and pre launch internal activities
You detect signals from external experts and translates these into opportunities/threats for the company
You work in permanentcollaboration and alignment with the Medical advisor(s) in charge of thesame therapeutic area(s), as their jobs are complementary andinterdependent
Provide scientific andtechnical input to local AbbVie Brand team and external thought leaders usinginformation that has been reviewed and approved by relevant local procedure.This includes working with local Medical Information teams, as appropriate, torespond to unsolicited requests for off-label information on AbbVie medicines.
Ensure adherence to allapplicable national laws and regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbViestandards, policies and procedures.
Develop and maintaincollaborative relationships with thought leaders in the product / therapeuticarea for which the MSL has been assigned responsibility, to facilitate Abbvieresearch and educational priorities and strategic initiatives.

Required skills & competencies
Advanced degree (e.g. PharmD., MD, PhD) in a relevant scientific disciplineis preferred but candidates with an undergraduate degree in a relevantdiscipline and demonstrated experience will be considered.
Experience in developing and maintaining expert knowledge for the assigned therapeuticarea, and in medical research in general.
Experience in developing networks with External Experts, partnering withhospital clinical teams for a better patient outcome
Solid knowledge of the ph armaceutical environment and the roleof Medical Affairs to advance the medical and scientific objectives of apharmaceutical company.
Demonstrated expertise in the scientific methodsapplied to clinical research andcurrent legislative/regulatory controls applicable to this research.
Ability to comprehensivelylearn about ne w subject areas andenvironments.
Excellent written and spoken communication and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop andmaintain strong collaborative relationships with thought leaders, physiciansand other healthcare decision makers.
Demonstrated ability toorganize, strong project management skills and capability to prioritize andwork effectively in a constantly changing environment
