Scope of the role is to anticipate risks and opportunities, identify solutions and appropriate business-oriented solutions, and build, develop and maintain the legal support to the business and legal function in France.
The Legal Director shall in particular identify required support to the leadership team in France to support the key strategic objectives of the business in France and the work shall focus on continuously build an effective legal support function always addressing the highest legal challenges and pursue the greatest commercial opportunities in a proactive and innovative fashion, in alignment with the legal function direction and in close alignment with the relevant business leaders in France.
The legal work will require to:
Identify and map out the legal support needs of the business leaders and provide business oriented efficient, flexible and long term solutions for agile legal support on routine matters.
Identify complex to highly complex legal issues related to assigned significant strategic matters; proposes solutions, and align on business and legal high risk matters with the Region Counsel Europe & Canada;
Resolves complex to highly complex legal matters in practice areas without or with minimal supervision;
Be expected to gain solid knowledge of AbbVie’s businesses and organization and knowledge of the broader business impact of decisions made; be expected to keep abreast of changes in laws that affect client areas and represent AbbVie externally to customers, suppliers, competitors, government agencies and industry associations;
Resolves legal issues using negotiation skills and legal expertise; guide and coordinate legal support of the lawyers in the French legal team.
To the extent that complex problems or specific technical expertise is required, selects and directs the work of outside counsel, defines project objectives, and manages projects.
Drives team development on a continuous basis by clearly identifying roles and responsibilities, providing guidance and coaching as well as inspiration to the team members to build their legal capabilities and a culture of risk management based on risk, enterprise view as well as unlocking business value through ability to prioritize and to deliver best in class legal advice.
Develops budgets for assigned legal matters where necessary. Must operate within appropriate budget(s).
Law degree from a relevant jurisdiction
10+ years of relevant experience
Experience in supporting senior business leaders
Experience in commercial law
Experience in pricing and reimbursement issues in France, comfortable to navigate and legally advice the business successfully in this area
Experience and excellent knowledge in life science law, in particular regarding pharmaceutical promotional matters
Good knowledge administrative and public law
Public procurement law
National and EU competition law
Ethics & Compliance + local requirements
Experience in developing and conducting training
General understanding and experience in intellectual property (patents, trademarks).
General good understanding of regulatory law.
Basic Corporate Law
The individual needs to be highly motivated, flexible, independent with demonstrated capacity to manage people, take initiative, adaptability and integrity, with strong communication skills, a cultural sensitivity to working in a multi-national company and the ability to work effectively in teams and manage a team.
