Overview and Business Impact:
Lead public affairs (communications and patient relations) activities that create and sustain excitement around AbbVie’s science & innovations particularly in Immunology, and that drive confidence in the company’s future by implementing strategies to tell our immunology story, and driving strategies that help shape a more innovation-friendly environment
Key contact for pan-European patient organizations and advocacy groups in immunology. Build rapport with and create strategic partnerships with these advocacy groups and patient organizations where working towards common objectives allows AbbVie and the patient groups to achieve a greater impact than if we worked separately.
Ensure alignment and coordination with the AbbVie Patient Relations Manager community in immunology (affiliate, area, global). Ensure that we are engaging with patient groups to elevate the patient voice across the patient journey.
Shape the dialogue as appropriate among key stakeholders to support access to AbbVie medicines in markets where we operate
Protect and enhance AbbVie’s reputation as a responsible and research and development-based biopharmaceutical company that makes a positive impact on patients and society linking corporate brand and therapeutic area communications
Drive communications strategies that effectively represent, position and promote the AbbVie value story in immunology to both internal and external audiences.
Provide strategic counsel to management, brand team and other internal stakeholders on courses of action to address proactive opportunities and manage issues that may be financially material
Leadership role in developing capabilities, increasing alignment and sharing best practice across affiliates
Interact with management, brand teams, affiliates to develop executive communications and coach on delivery of messages for AbbVie in immunology.
Anticipate potential issues and develop/implement appropriate actions and stakeholder engagement plans to protect the company and immunology brands he/she is responsible for.
Ensure that Public Affairs activities address corporate / business needs, are aligned with corporate / regional / local and functional strategy, disseminated through relevant channels and make the most positive impact possible.
As part of our strategic brand planning process, co-create and drive communications and patient relations strategies and tactical plans with Global and Affiliate brand/corporate teams. Coordinate closely with affiliates to support an aligned and strategically consistent roll out while constantly gaining insights that feed back into the brand planning process.
Measure the success of the initiatives developed against the set of goals and integrate learnings back into strategy design seeking permanent improvement
Act within Corporate and Divisional policies & procedures. Maintain quality and work within ethical guidelines set by Corporate/Division/Affiliate/Market and Business Excellence standards and ensure compliance with agencies
Maintain transparency, manage expectations around partnerships with patient organizations from one year to the next. Ensure the independence of patient partners is not compromised, the reputation of AbbVie is not damaged, and the end results of patient group partnerships are seen as successful by both AbbVie and the patient community.
Our work with patient groups is governed by a pharmaceutical industry regulatory framework which requires a clear understanding by everyone on the Patient Relations team.
Member of Area Immunology Brand Team and key driver in the development of the Area Brand Plan for this therapeutic area. Direct responsibility for strategic and annual Public Affairs planning for the WE&C Area leveraging internal processes such as 175 and Catalyst. Strategies may include disease education and programming, market access initiatives, milestone communications, product/brand-specific communications, culture and ways of working evolution, media relations, issues/crises management and building strategic partnerships with Patient Organizations in the region.
Key role in getting affiliates insights and shaping global brand strategies.
Build and maintain a consistent identity for the Immunology Brands across multiple Marketing and Communications vehicles including keeping Area and Affiliate stakeholders up to speed on key strategies and actions.
Leverage Communications expertise to develop the Immunology value story (scientific story with medical) and economic story (with Market Access). Design and deliver training programs to deliver this.
Responsible for coordinating with colleagues in affiliates within the Area as well as with Commercial Internal/Leadership Communications to ensure alignment on internal communications needs/initiatives specific to immunology. The role will aim to establish and drive AbbVie’s ongoing leadership in Immunology.
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Master’s degree in communications, political science, or marketing preferred.
Minimum 7-10 years of directly relevant communications / public affairs experience required, with local market healthcare and/or industry experience strongly preferred.
Experience counselling senior business leaders on diverse, high profile and financially-material topics.
Strong track record of ability to influence internal stakeholders and delivering results through matrix environments and with increasing levels of responsibility.
Strong business, marketing and policy acumen also required.
Skilled at writing for senior executives.
Experience with global communications efforts and/or in international markets desired.
