Oncology is a key therapeutic area for AbbVie, with a portfolio consisting of three marketed products — Imbruvica®, Venclexta™, and Empliciti™ — and a pipeline containing multiple promising new molecules that are being studied in nearly 200 clinical trials in 19 different types of cancer.
AbbVie is growing its oncology hub on the West Coast, with three sites in the San Francisco Bay Area (Redwood City, South San Francisco, and Sunnyvale) passionate about the discovery and development of novel oncology therapies. More than 1,000 AbbVie scientists, clinicians, and product developers with strong entrepreneurial roots work across these three sites. They combine their expertise in immuno-oncology, stem cells, and cell-signaling with their knowledge of bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and covalent-inhibitor technologies to discover and develop novel cancer treatments.
This position will be based at AbbVie Biotherapeutics (ABR), AbbVie’s Center of Innovation in Oncology Research and Development, located in Redwood City. ABR R&D efforts are focused on:
- Immuno-Oncology (I-O): developing therapeutics thatactivate the immune system to recognize and eliminate cancer cells
The Oncology Biologics Department is seeking a highly motivated and experienced in vivo pharmacology scientist to join our Immuno-Oncology Discovery team. In this position, you will participate in the design and execution of high quality in vivo studies supporting the discovery and development of new therapeutics in cancer immunotherapy as part of a multidisciplinary research team in a fast-paced and well supported discovery environment.
Keyresponsibilities:
Work with multiple project teams to propose studydesigns, coordinate logistics and to conduct in vivo studies.
Perform all aspects of in vivo studies from receivinganimals, to inoculation, randomization using Study Director software,dosing, tumor measurements and pharmacodynamic studies during the studyand at necropsy
Conduct studies within timelines to help achievemilestone decisions; anticipate potential hurdles and identify alternativestrategies to minimize impact to project goals.
Maintain accurate and timely records of research, anddevelop and deliver scientific presentations and reports for internalmeetings
Work as part of a highly collaborativeinterdisciplinary team in an integrated and well-supported researchlaboratory
Review, comprehend and follow all SOP’s and qualityassurance standard pertaining to specific area
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education with typically 5+ years of experience or a Master's Degree (or equivalent education) with 2+ years of experience.
Basic:
Strong in vivo skills, significant experience withsubcutaneous and orthotopic mouse tumor models, including cellinoculations, tumor measurements, and multiple dosing routes.
Experience with syngeneic mouse tumor models
Experience with mouseautoimmune disease models
Experience with mouse autoimmune disease models
Strong ex vivo skills such as flow cytometry, ELIspot,ELISA, Luminex, Hemavet highly preferred
Demonstrated ability to multi-task on more than onestudy at a time is highly preferred
As this position is part of a dynamic matrixedorganization, excellent oral and written communication skills areessential.
The ideal candidate has a willingness to adopt newskills as needed.
Proficiency with software programs, including StudyDirector, MS Excel, Powerpoint, Word
Preferred:
Background in immuno-oncology research
Experience with in vitro mammalian cell culture
Proficiency with the software programs Prism and StudyDirector
