Research & Development
AbbVie Analytical Research &Development (Analytical R&D) is a global analytical sciences organization responsible for all CMC analytical activities related to the development of AbbVie's pharmaceutical products. Our scope includes AbbVie's diverse pipeline of innovative small molecule and therapeutic biologic medicines and spans from the selection of Discovery candidate molecules through the transition of analytical methods and testing to commercial labs to support product launch. We are building a world-class team of scientists and leaders who will drive the advancement of industry-leading analytical capabilities and make meaningful contributions to advance AbbVie's pipeline of innovative medicines. Careers in AbbVie Analytical R&D provide unique opportunities to work with global and cross-functional teams to drive exceptional science and innovative product development strategies. We are looking for diverse candidates with strong scientific and leadership experience to join the AbbVie Analytical R&D team and can offer exciting and rewarding career opportunities for these candidates.
In the Center of Excellence for Process Analytical Technology (cPAT) within Analytical R&D, we work collaboratively to support drug discovery and development through all phases (from lead optimization to new drug application filing). The best candidate for the current position will apply an extensive knowledge of optical spectroscopy (principally FTIR, NIR, and Raman) to help provide insight to multi-disciplinary project teams during drug substance and drug product development and scale-up. Fluency in the use of multivariate analyses techniques (PLS, PCA) is desired. Working with synthetic chemists, formulators, engineers, and operations staff, the candidate will help enable data rich experimentation in both laboratories and pilot plants to drive the process understanding and development. Functioning in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, the candidate will ensure robust and reliable results to enable the project team’s decision making.
Bachelors, Masters, or PhD with 10-14 (BS), 8-12 (MS), and 0-6 (PhD) years of experience in process development in pharmaceutical or a related industry. Preferred educational background includes but is not restricted to Analytical or Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Pharmaceutical Science.
Demonstrated track record of using vibrational spectroscopy techniques (e.g., FTIR, NIR and Raman) to develop mechanistic and process insight, as well as in the development of relevant control strategies.
Fluency in the use of multivariate analyses techniques (PLS, PCA) is desired.
The candidate is expected to provide stage appropriate analytical methods using in-line, on-line, or at-line analytical methodologies. Familiarity with currently available commercial PAT technologies is expected, as is some experience with sample systems and custom instrument configurations
Comfortable working in cross-functional teams, conversant with engineers, formulators and chemists while providing subject matter expertise in analytical technologies.
Strong record of successfully influencing key stakeholders and collaborators to drive decisions
Excellent communicator in both written and oral forms. Experience in mentoring junior scientists.
Expected to evaluate novel technology approachesand maintain high-level scientific profile both internally and externally in terms of pipeline contributions and scholarly achievements.
Key Leadership Competencies:
Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of team to enable higher performance.
Learns fast, grasps the "essence" and can change course quickly where indicated.
Creates a learning environment, open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement.
Embraces the ideas of others, nurtures innovation and manages innovation to reality.
Record of leading applied research programs and experience in leveraging external innovation and resources to augment internal capabilities.
Job level will be commensurate with experience
