We are seeking a highly motivated chemist with a proven track record of accomplishment to work in a multi-functional team environment to join the Protein Degradation group in North Chicago, IL. Experience with early stage projects and/or knowledge of hit identification and chemical biology techniques is preferred. This individual should enjoy working with innovative technologies in a highly collaborative fast-paced environment.

The candidate is expected to generate new synthetic and medicinal chemistry proposals and lead those efforts. May act as a lead scientist in his/her area of expertise on one or more projects. Critically evaluate relevant scientific advances and integrate this knowledge into research programs.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Conceive and execute medicinal chemistry research thatachieves project and area goals. Expertise in synthetic organic chemistryis an essential requirement of this position to drive the SAR optimizationcycle.

  • Maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratorysetting.

  • Demonstrate the ability to resolve key project hurdlesand assumptions by effectively utilizing available information andtechnical expertise.

  • Proactively seek out new information in the literatureand incorporate this into individual project(s) as well as the overallprogram.

Position Accountability/Scope:

  • Demonstrate a high degree of responsibility inmaintaining scientific standards, and safe laboratory practices for selfand reporting staff, if any.

  • Participate in establishing project goals, definingshort and long-term scientific strategies, and contribute to thegeneration of project-related documents and presentations.

  • Keep accurate and current records of research and/orproject related activities according to AbbVie policies.

Internal/External Contacts andInteractions:

  • Act as advocate to integrate this knowledge into thegroup's research efforts. Generate new research or development strategiesto effectively address project and divisional goals/needs.

  • Collaborate with functional and technical experts tofacilitate scientific achievement.

  • Publish project-related research in high-impact factorpeer-reviewed journals, R&D reports, patent applications and/orregulatory documents/filings.

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporateand Divisional Policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Position will be hired based on level of experience.

  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD with typically 10-12+ (BS), 8-10+ (MS) or PhD 0-4+ years of experience; pharmaceutical industry experience is highly preferred.

  • A high level of technical skill in technical lab operations and a general understanding of related businesses.

  • Ability to work independently to meet operational goals and business needs.

  • Ability to interact and establish interaction with internal/external customers.

  • Shows broad understanding of the issues relevant to technical/science and business.
