The Biotransformation group in DMPK-BA has an open position for an expert in conducting in vivo studies to support drug discovery and development. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing critical samples required to drive the pipeline and answer key scientific questions. The candidate will collaborate across various disciplines within AbbVie including DMPK, chemistry, biology, toxicology and pathology to support biotransformation and PK. The individual is expected to have a high level of practical experience performing in vivo studies, sample harvesting, sectioning tissues, managing radioactive compounds, and possess strong written and oral communication skills.

KeyResponsibilities Include:

  • Care and handling of laboratory animals (rat,dog, mouse), including restraint, dosing, and minor surgical procedures

  • Necropsy and collection of tissues, blood andbile collection

  • Experimental design, conducting studies, andin vitro sample processing.

  • Familiarity with the IACUC and IACUCprotocols.Maintenance, training,renewal, and amendments as needed.

  • Familiarity with Culex operation and Debrasoftware.

  • Troubleshoot experiments and instrumentation.

  • Understand and adhere to corporate standardsregarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials,controlled drug and radioactive compounds and animal care where applicable.

Level will be based on education & years of experience

Basic:

  • Bachelor's Degree, Veterinary Technician certification, AALAScertification or equivalent education in a scientific discipline, withtypically 1-3+ or more years' experience.

  • Expert performing in vivostudies

  • Proficient with hepatocyteincubations

  • Oxidizer use and maintenance

  • Skilled with sectioning ofvarious tissues

  • Demonstrated expert in samplepreparation methods

  • Advanced training withradio-active material

  • Experience with liquidchromatography mass spectrometry platforms a plus

  • Strong interpersonal skills,the ability to work independently with minimal supervision inmanaging multiple projects and priorities and work well within a team

  • Strong presentation andwritten/verbal communication skills.
