The Director of Security Operations is responsible for the strategic direction, operational oversight, and daily delivery of critical aspects of AbbVie’s global Information Security team in order to improve cyber resiliency across AbbVie. The Director of Security Operations will be responsible for maintaining security team-specific tools and acting as the Business Owner for Security-adjacent technologies managed by other teams. The Director of Security Operations will also identify security gaps, driving corrective action within stakeholder organizations, and reporting on the environmental threat landscape to senior leadership. The Director of Security Operations is also accountable for ensuring AbbVie is well positioned, from a technical, procedural, and personnel standpoint, to detect, examine, contain, and remediate cyber intrusions. The Director of Security Operations will ensure that AbbVie is well prepared to respond to any event that bypasses our controls.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of highly developed technical skills, highly effective at managing teams, and have demonstrated strategic leadership skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Define performance measurements and capabilities for our cyber security program to drive strategy

  • Manage a team of cyber security professionals across a range of specialities, including but not limited to incident response, forensics, security testing, and device configuration

  • Partner with AbbVie BTS (IT) peer organizations to advance AbbVie’s security defenses and resilience

  • Drive strategic, long term enhancements across BTS, by identifying risk areas and gaps, to minimize our exposure to cyber threat and improve our ability to recover from any intrusion or adverse cyber event

  • Create, maintain, and communicate a multi-year, standards-aligned capabilities roadmap

  • Provide technical, procedural, and communication guidance to team members

  • Work with other Information Security and Risk Management teams to collaborate on cross-functional strategy and tactical project delivery

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required. MS/MBA desirable

  • MUST be a domain expert within Information Security

  • 15+ years in an Information Technology position

  • 10+ years in an information security position

  • 5+ years managing people

  • Expert level understanding of Log analysis tools, such as Splunk

  • Expert level understanding of Incident Response methodologies and tools

  • Expert level multiple cyber security disciplines such as security testing, vulnerability management, threat intelligence, security monitoring, and attacker methodologies

  • Expert level understanding of security and other IT technologies, able to define technology integration and configuration requirements
