Summary of Job Description:

  • Permanent full -time

  • The Communications & Patient Relations Manager is a broad role to protect and build AbbVie’s reputation and ensure we make a remarkable impact on patients’ lives.

  • Support the AbbVie brand teams to create, collaborate on and execute impactful, patient focused communications programs, internally and externally, that tell the AbbVie story.

  • Be able to tell stories through innovative, progressive content through social media and other digital channels.

  • This role aims to bring to life the ‘voice of the patient’ in AbbVie through communication and stakeholder relation strategies.

  • The scope of management includes strategic leadership, agency management, budget responsibility and leadership of compliance in patient and HCO engagement as per the Medicines Australia Code of Conduct and New Zealand Medicines Code.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Deliver patient focused communications strategies (internal /external) with specific timelines, budgets and stakeholder responsibilities, aligned with country Brand Team strategies.

  • Take a ‘hands-on’ approach to supporting brand teams with communications and patient relations.

  • Develop engaging and innovative content for social media platforms and other digital channels.

  • Manage PR agencies to deliver agreed outcomes.Interact with and provide direction to agencies regarding strategy and execution of activities for key themes, in collaboration with the Director of Corporate Communications and product managers/Business Unit Managers/Commercial Directors.

  • Develop engaging content to educate and communicate to employees.

  • Manage product related issues with the support of the Director of Communications & Patient Relations

  • Define and monitor Key Performance Indicator results and feedback and propose strategic planning/tactics adjustment as required, in conjunction with the Brand Teams

  • Contribute to and ensure that all brand communications align to the country and global patient relations strategies.

  • Gain deep insight of all relevant HCOs by mapping their stakeholders and identifying their internal and external influences, sphere of political influence and objectives

  • Build strategic relationships with HCOs to understand patients’ needs and concerns, identify stakeholders and influencers, align mutual priorities. And ensure their voice is heard within AbbVie.

  • Support the management of the AbbVie HCO grants/donations program.

  • Adhere to all AbbVie compliance requirements in dealings with Patients and HCOs, and achieve 100% compliance under the Medicines Australia Code and New Zealand Medicines Code.

  • Other projects as directed by the Director of Corporate Communications & Patient Relations

Essential Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to influence a multi-disciplinary team without authority/without direct reporting line relationship.

  • Ability to develop and execute multi-channel communication and stakeholder relation strategieswith a particular emphasis on social media.

  • Ability to tailor communications to meet the requirements of different stakeholder groups, sensitive of diverse views and needs.

  • Ability to project manage activities and act decisively to ensure efficient use of resources, including agency resources and budget management

  • Ability to establish clear expectations, provide timely, accurate feedback and take appropriate follow-up actions to build capability and ensure effectiveness

  • Ability to translate strategy into flawless execution

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn the Medicines Australia Code and New Zealand Medicines code, as well as familiarity with media, brand and the healthcare/ pharmaceutical environments

Basic:

Education/Experience Required:

  • Qualifications in communications or demonstrated equivalent experience

  • At least 6 years’ experience in PR/ Communications/stakeholder Relations

  • Strong skills in social and traditional media essential (proactive and reactive)

  • Strong preference for Pharmaceutical/healthcare industry sector experience

  • Experience managing commercial brand-enhancing communication campaigns

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic stakeholder relations

  • Understanding of marketing principles not essential but preferred
