AbbVie, a leading fortune 200 global biopharmaceutical company, is seeking a Tax Specialist for a 12 month contract. The successful applicant will report to the regional tax manager and be based in Madrid, Spain. This person will also work with local & international tax colleagues to ensure timely compliance for subsidiaries in EMEA (likely including Spain, Portugal, Czech & Slovakia, Greece and Turkey), implement relevant internal policies, support on any tax audits & review the tax implications of internal initiatives, together with external developments, etc.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supportthe tax compliance process including analysis and coordination with finance(both back office & local) teams

  • Assistingwith the analysis of tax technical issues that impact relevant entitiesand effective written communication with relevant stakeholders, followingappropriate review

  • Providelocal country support for taxes in the execution of business transactions

  • Supportingtax initiatives regarding processes/systems enhancements, including:

  • Refineprocess manuals developed in conjunction with indirect tax advisors and backoffice finance

  • Prepare/updatetax decision trees for accounts payable purposes

  • Supportongoing reconciliation of tax general ledger accounts

  • Co-ordinationof enterprise tax risks and assisting with tax audits

  • Maintainrelationships with local tax authorities and advisors

  • Deliverguidance on the correct treatment of taxes for financial statementpurposes

  • SupportFinance to ensure timely payments of tax liabilities and submission ofrefund claims

  • Proactivelymonitoring tax legislation/policy, including any potential requiredchanges to processes and the ERP systems

  • Maintainappropriate supporting documents for tax returns

Qualifications

Competencies / Experience

  • Undergraduate degree Economics,Finance or Accounting or similar discipline, together with a specificqualification regarding Taxes

  • 4 years’ post qualification experience intax matters in either alarge accounting firm and/or large multinational company

  • Abilityto bring a broader perspective when undertaking a tax analysis

  • Stronganalytical and organisational skills, with a hands-on attitude

  • Aptitudeto work independently and exercise sound judgment and initiative

  • Appetiteto take responsibility, with appropriate support, for taxes

  • StrongMicrosoft Office skills, with an experience in ERP systems (especiallySAP) welcome but not essential

  • Abilityto work in a global team and to build strong working relationships with adiverse range of co-workers

  • Fluent in written and spoken English isessential. Any other language is an asset

  • Flexibilityto manage obligations in other time zones

  • Willingto travel if required for business reasons.
