This position is an exciting opportunity for an NMR spectroscopist to support small molecule drug discovery for neurodegenerative diseases in Abbvie’s Research and Development centre in Ludwigshafen.
The Senior Scientist NMR Spectroscopy runs a state-of-the-art small molecule drug discovery NMR lab consisting of one 500MHz and one 600MHz Bruker NMR spectrometer. The facility supports a group of around 30 medicinal chemists through data analysis and experimental design for structure elucidation and characterization of final compounds. Included in this role are maintenance of an open access facility and training and guidance of medicinal chemists. This is a highly interdisciplinary role and the successful candidate will be working closely with computational chemists and scientists from ADME/PK and biology contributing to the discovery of novel treatments for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.
Your proficiency in state-of-the-art spectrometer technique, experience in troubleshooting technical instrument problems and familiarity with safety procedures distinguishes you.
Your experience in design and execution of multinuclear and multidimensional NMR experiments for small molecules enables you to implement new pulse sequences.
You are familiar with Bruker NMR instrumentation.
You possess profound knowledge of structural organic chemistry and you are an expert in structure elucidation using solution NMR spectroscopy, used to delivering high quality data and interpretation.
You are responsible for maintaining the NMR instruments and the data processing stations, as well as overseeing and administering the LIMS system.
It is your task to set-up and optimize NMR automation and perform routine calibrations and adjustments of the spectrometers on a regular basis.
Your role includes preparing investment requests for upgrades of existing instrumentation or new instrumentation.
You show a high degree of independence in your work and you are keen to collaborate with other teams.

You hold a Ph.D. in NMR Spectroscopy, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field and have 3+ years of experience in an NMR laboratory environment (academic or industrial).
