The position is situated within the Neuroinflammation Group (Alzheimer Disease Research within Neuroscience Discovery) in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The accomplished neurobiologist will make substantial contributions to the conception and execution of new therapeutic approaches to neurodegenerative diseases in a collaborative environment with a focus on Alzheimer Disease.

The successful candidate would have the following responsibilities:

  • Sources and identify emerging scientific and technological trends from internal and external resources and evaluate relevance: Integrate trends into functional objectives to address critical project needs.

  • Coordinate and supervise a team of scientists focusing on drug discovery related to microglia.

  • Plan and coordinate complex experiments involving interdisciplinary working groups. Act as project lead.

  • Collaborate with discovery experts in other biology groups, cross-functional (e.g. developmental sciences) and global colleagues.

  • Independently design, execute, analyze and interpret experiments to address key scientific questions.

  • Plan and coordinate complex experiments involving interdisciplinary working groups.

  • Identify, develop and optimize new techniques to address critical project needs.

  • Effectively compile and present scientific plans and data.

  • Read and apply relevant scientific literature to support scientific discussions.

  • Collaborate with other groups in discovery, developmental sciences and global colleagues.

Your AbbVie talent:

  • PhD in neuroscience, cell biology, biochemistry, pharmacology or related field with at least 5 years of industrial experience and profound knowledge in drug discovery.

  • Expertise in neurodegenerative diseases, neuroimmunology or innate immunology.

  • Expertise in molecular biology and protein biochemistry including method development and validation.

  • High scientific rigor and commitment to provide robust high quality scientific results.

  • Very good skills in planning and coordination of complex interdisciplinary studies.

  • A high degree of self-initiative, independency, flexibility and curiosity.

  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal relationship skills.

  • Good communication skills and proficiency in English (written and oral).

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of scientists and effectively work in a matrix environment as well as the ability to present scientific activities/results at internal and external meetings, and publish in peer-reviewed journals
