The Lab Head position is situated at the DMPK department in Ludwigshafen. The mission of the department is to analyze the ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion) properties and pharmacokinetics of small molecules and biologics to support the discovery pipeline. The successful candidate would have the following responsibilities.
You will supervise a team of experts in brain PK and further develop the group to sustain and enhance a high level of overall execution
You are responsible for quality and timely execution of all PK studies within the Neuroscience disease indication for small and large molecule test articles and feel comfortable with the interpretation and presentation of the results in local and global project teams
You are implementing new methodologies to characterize the brain (ECF, CSF) disposition of large molecules and biomarkers (e.g. push-pull micro dialysis and open flow micro perfusion in rodent brain and/or brain ventricles; in situ brain perfusion and dual-probe studies).
You will design of complex PK studies in rodents, including mice and rats, transgenic animals, humanized mice and formulation studies in dogs and minipigs as well as experimental conditions to monitor and optimize blood-brain barrier integrity, blood contamination, to enable accurate (absolute whenever possible) quantification of analytes.
Collaborating very closely with discovery and share methodologies/resources to establish PK/PD relationships and address project needs is one task of your role.
You will design and conduct studies to enable the integration of micro dialysis data into prediction models (In silico, PBPK or PK/PD, quantitative systems pharmacology) in close collaboration with scientists across various disciplines
In addition, you will report the results and represent the DMPK department in project teams and cross-functional research groups.
Your AbbVie Talent:
You hold a Ph.D. in pharmacology, medicine, biology, biochemistry or related field with at least 1 year of postdoc in industry within an in vivo lab.
Due to previous work experience you have an excellent knowledge in in vivo methods in rodents and performance of animal experiments.
You possess experience in the method of micro dialysis, including surgical procedures, micro dialysis experiments and quantification of analytes, preferably for large molecules.
Experience in biochemical detection methods or LC-MS/MS methodology would be beneficial.
You show excellent teamwork skills and a high degree of self-initiative are required due to interdisciplinary nature of the position.
