The Manager, Medical Training supports assigned Therapeutic Areas in the design and delivery of foundational and leadership skills to the field medical organization (scientific/product training out of scope). The Manager is accountable to the Associate Training Director, the USMA Field Force Effectiveness Director, and the applicable Therapeutic Area Business Partners (Associate Scientific Directors, Assistant Scientific Directors, Scientific/Medical Directors, MSL Directors) to ensure relevant content and strategy are appropriately incorporated in all training programs and solutions.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Relationship Building/Stakeholder Management
Actively sets mutual expectations with Business Partners, including the field and home office groups, so that working relationships are constructive and productive
Builds trust and credibility with Business Partners through regular interaction and is evidenced by feedback and proven working partnerships
Builds a sense of team within Field Force Effectiveness (FFE) team as demonstrated through mutual respect and support of peers and others
Demonstrates direct and open communication within FFE, CA&O and with all Business Partners resulting in positive relationships and mutual understanding and agreement
Performance Coaching
Provides candid and specific verbal performance feedback resulting in training participants (Medical Science Liaisons, Medical Outcomes Science Liaisons and field leadership) being aware of strengths and weaknesses
When asked by Business Partners, provides written evaluations that are specific, highlighting strengths and addressing areas for improvement which training participants can act on resulting in improved performance
Recognizes the skill level of training participants and adjusts coaching and training techniques to meet the needs of individuals
Acts as a mentor to others and “leads through teamwork” cultivating and maintaining positive peer-to-peer relationships
Demonstrates leadership of sessions including time management, speakers, partners, during all meetings and training classes
Demonstrates the ability to effectively address classroom challenges – behavioral, over-achievers, low performers – so that the entire class is able to benefit, progress and learn
Demonstrates ability to influence others and ‘lead without authority’ evidenced by interactions with Business Partners such as Therapeutic Area and/or Field Excellence leadership
Strategy
Demonstrates and applies knowledge of all FFE Business Partner (e.g. Therapeutic Area, Field leadership) businesses, strategies and priorities
Adheres to and links solutions to defined business partner strategies in the classroom and at any relevant meetings
Seeks innovative solutions to capitalize on business opportunities and shares solutions across Therapeutic Areas when appropriate
Must possess advanced problem solving and analytic skills to be able to identify, and translate specific Business Partner training needs, into an action that will achieve objectives
Performance Learning
Designs, develops and delivers learning solutions that increases effectiveness and credibility of participants (MSL and MOSLs)
Adheres to adult learning principles and sound training design
Demonstrates versatility and flexibility so that obstacles are overcome and expected results are produced
Increases personal effectiveness through formal and informal development
Recognized as an expert in non-therapeutic areas such as customer and business skills
Builds, strengthens and transfers knowledge and skills to enhance field medical customer engagements, including but not limited to Active Listening, Storytelling, Mobilizer, and Medical Challenger
Continually educates self on Medical Affairs market issues/trends and product knowledge as it pertains to specific business responsibilities in assigned therapeutic areas
Basic:
Bachelor’s degree
2 years of field experience with a proven high-performance track record
Scientific knowledge on given disease states and treatment options is necessary to successfully develop relevant and targeted training content
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and matrix leadership skills required
Learning agility to adapt to new business developments and create innovative approaches
Proven ability to integrate business trends and therapeutic area strategies into plans that drive performance in the field
Exceptionally skilled at gaining stakeholder alignment to develop partnerships and align training with the business strategy
Strong communication and platform skills
Proficient in Microsoft office and Webex programs
Competent in project management and appropriately prioritizes multiple projects at a time.
Preferred:
Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, MBA)
Demonstrated experience and knowledge in adult learning principles and instructional design
Additional Information
Significant Work Activities and Conditions: Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)
Travel: Yes, 15 % of the Time
