The Director, Brand Excellence is responsible for the US Area strategy and implementation of processes and programs to elevate and evolve brand teams’ ability to create and deliver integrated winning strategies. This role is a key strategic navigator with US Area extended leadership team including Commercial Analytics & Operations and ensures alignment with the strategic brand planning approach of Global Commercial Development (GCD) and Global Marketing and Commercial Operations (GMCO).
Collaboratively and sustainably create and elevate the US Area capability related to Brand Excellence. Ensure alignment with all cross-functional partners leading each of the three work streams (Integrated Brand Management, Brand Excellence Capabilities, and Brand Academy). This includes:
Integrated Brand Management – co-create and fully deploy an integrated and elevated approach to strategic brand management from discovery to IFT in close collaboration with GCD and Global Marketing and Commercial Operations colleagues. This must include effective integration of all elements of the AbbVie approach to Integrated Brand Management: one continuous commercial plan, grounded in the seven strategic anchors, and with five consistent touch points with senior leadership. Assist with planning and ongoing implementation within the US Area for on-market and launch strategic brand planning in collaboration with colleagues in US Brand Planning, Marketing Analytics and Business Insights and Launch Capabilities.
Brand Excellence Competencies – co-create and fully deploy a new enterprise-wide competency model tied to key elements of AbbVie’s Brand Excellence capability in collaboration with Global Commercial Development, Global Marketing and Commercial Operations, Business Human Resources, and other cross-functional colleagues. Assist in the management of selected vendors retained to assist in the creation and deployment of Brand Excellence competencies. Work with Commercial Excellence and BHR colleagues to customize implementation of the competency model for US needs and build additional related competencies as needed; and to integrate new competency model into existing people management processes and manager job responsibilities to ensure uptake and sustainability.
Brand Excellence Academy – co-create and fully deploy a single enterprise-wide platform and content to support the training and development of brand teams to elevate AbbVie’s Brand Excellence capability in collaboration with US colleagues in all training groups, as well as with Global Commercial Development and Global Marketing and Commercial Operations. Assist in planning and sustainable implementation within the US Area in collaboration with US training colleagues.
Communication/Change Management – Ability to create the vision and action plan (with internal team and/or any vendor if required) to achieve the change management required to allow Brand Excellence to maintain momentum and become a sustainable change within our organization. Ongoing stakeholder management and refinement during all phases of the multi-year implementation plan.
Works collaboratively across Commercial Excellence to optimize all projects and integrate with existing processes and people.
Develops and maintains strong working relationships with key internal partners including GCD; GMCO; and within the US Area: Commercial and Operations leadership, BHR, BTS, Compliance, Finance, Medical, HEOR and Regulatory.
Manages financial and resource planning to optimize available resources and builds partnerships with commercial leaders to achieve objectives within defined timeframes and budgets.
Bachelor's degree in business or related discipline. MBA highly desirable to ensure ability to consult on business strategy development and analyze information to build insights
10+ years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical commercial business including pipeline development, launch, on-market, and mature brand experience desired.
Requires proven experience and understanding of Sales and Marketing in a mature pharmaceutical market.
Proven ability to lead in a complex matrix environment with and without direct authority.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to influence senior commercial leaders and clearly articulate strategic objectives.
Strong understanding of pharmaceutical industry trends.
Proven marketing and strategic planning skills.
Proven program and process management skills to successfully implement complex business initiatives.
This position reports to the Director, Commercial Excellence. The role leads Brand Excellence strategy and implementation across US area and works to ensure alignment with Global Commercial Development and Global Marketing and Commercial Operations.
Leads large scale initiatives across the entire division in a matrix environment comprised of internal and external talent directly affecting the overall strategies for the U.S. business.
