2019 Experiential Internship (Graduate Level) - Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics/Bioanalysis Intern
USA, Illinois, Lake County
Asan AbbVie Experiential Intern, you'll participate in a paid, ten to twelve-week summer program that is focused on providing students with robust projects throughout the summer. As an intern, you will be located at our corporate headquarters in north suburban Chicago, with housing and shuttle services for eligible students.
Department Overview – Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics/Bioanalysis
With the framework of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, the department seeks to advance the pipeline and enhance probability of success with enabling science and innovation. We aim to deliver high quality, timely, cost-competitive data for decision making. We also strive to build a culture of trust and seamless collaboration with internal partners and expand our reach toward external collaborations.
The project would involve investigation of in vitro methods to predict in vivo conversion of permeability (and possibly solubility-) enhancing pro-drugs. Working under supervision and closely with the bioanalytical group, the candidate would conduct experiments with small molecule pro-drugs, both commercially available and those from internal programs to assess in vitro metabolic stability and/or intrinsic clearance. The project would involve the use of various sources of carboxylesterases (intestinal microsomes, liver microsomes, recombinant enzymes). The ideal candidate would have the ability to analyze literature, summarize results and replicate experimental results. The outcome of this work is expected to make advances toward a larger overarching goal of better understanding of mechanistic modeling of absorption.
