Asan AbbVie Experiential Intern, you'll participate in a paid, ten to twelve-week summer program that is focused on providing students with robust projects throughout the summer. As an intern, you will be located at our corporate headquarters in north suburban Chicago, with housing and shuttle services for eligible students.
Department Overview – Combination Product Development
Combination Product Development (CPD) department primarily focuses on drug delivery systems/devices ranging from syringes to auto-injectors to complex electro-mechanical on-body delivery systems. Functions within the CPD department include core engineering fields (mechanical, electrical, software, systems), human factors, project management, and advanced technological research in the medical devices industry.
This summer internship program offers an opportunity to work with experts in the field of medical devices and understand various aspect of the field including engineering research and testing, human factors, quality and regulatory compliance.
The intern will get a chance to explore our engineering test labs equipped with strong capabilities in electrical and mechanical testing and analysis. The intern will be a key contributor in advancing the lab’s capability further by setting up and validating equipment for wireless communication testing (analyzers, data sniffers, EM chambers, etc. for Bluetooth, NFC, and similar technologies). There will be opportunities to work on smaller projects alongside including power consumption characterization studies, PCB design and fabrication as applicable, data analysis in various tools (such as Excel, Minitab), scripting and macro building opportunity for automation, and electro-mechanical engineering testing.
This program will be a great platform to gain experience in one field and widen the horizon by exploring and tapping into other fields within the medical device world.
Completed at least one year of college education before beginning internship
Must be enrolled in school the semester following your internship
Senior Undergrad or Masters Level Student in Biomedical Engineering or Electrical Engineer. (*Senior Undergrad must be enrolled in school the semester following internship – Fall 2019)
Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.0/4.0
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship (students on an F1 visa with CPT can be accommodated).
- Wireless communication (Bluetooth) and knowhow of associated test and analysis equipment/instruments, PCB design and testing (optional), protocol and technical report writing.
