We are currently sourcing a high performing Operations Manager to be part of our senior leadership team in Cork. Reporting to the Site Director, this position is a key talent pipeline role to identify future leaders for local and international career opportunities. As Operations Manager, you will lead and develop your operations team (7 direct reports & 64 2nd level reports) to exceed the department goals and metrics (safety, quality and operational), build upon a phenomenal culture, and leading manufacturing to deliver our schedule, capacity and people potential.

Based in Carrigtohill, on the outskirts of Cork, we manufacture solid and capsule formulations in a modern ‘bulk tablet’ finish facility. We focus on innovative new technologies, developing and delivering products and processes to support AbbVie’s wider global needs - these range from small scale clinical trial supply to large commercial manufacturing. In this role, you will be a key member of our team that is responsible for delivering on our site goals and roadmap.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and grow high performing team by leading by example and building a strong sustainable culture of teamwork and delivery

  • Deliver excellent operational performance, leading the planning & execution of the production schedule to meet customer demands within a strong culture of compliance

  • Lead and promote a culture of Safety, Excellence, Continuous Improvement, leading lean & agile manufacturing initiatives, using key tools and programs (OEE, SMED, Total Productive Maintenance, Maintenance Excellence Human Excellence)

  • Provide technical and manufacturing expertise on the oral solid dose products manufactured

  • Lead technical activities, working across functions within the site and in close collaboration with global team to resolve issues and to ensure process capability and robust investigations

  • Work with Research & Development and Technical organization to ensure successful technology transfer and commercial scale-up of new products

  • Lead production aspect of product quality investigations in conjunction with Quality assurance including the assignment and management of corrective and preventative actions

  • Partner with Quality to meet all product quality requirements in accordance with cGMP’s and lead key quality improvement initiatives & programs within the department such as human excellence, human error reduction, 100% audit readiness and right first time

  • Act as lead in quality audits and ensure timely closure of action items from audits

Education & Experience:

  • You will have a degree in science (chemistry preferred), pharmacy or chemical engineering. In addition, a MSc or PhD qualification is highly desirable

  • You will have 8+ years’ experience in a manufacturing role in a similar environment with extensive people management experience

  • Your knowledge of regulatory (FDA, HPRA) and technical requirements for solid dosage manufacturing is key for this role

  • In addition to the technical experience gained in your previous roles; your motivational and leadership skills will be an asset to this role

  • As the Operations Manager, it is vital that you demonstrate strong communication skills and decision-making abilities with shown ability to influence and gain consensus
