AbbVie Immunology is expanding its early discovery at Cambridge, Massachusetts. This new immunology research group at AbbVie Cambridge Research Center (ACRC) will focus on identifying new targets for the treatment of autoimmune and chronic inflammation diseases through computational analysis of human disease tissue derived datasets, and validating targets using in vitro and in vivo experimental approaches.
The Senior Scientist, Immunology Target Discovery will play a critical role in identifying and prioritizing the targets in our focused disease and biology areas. This position will collaborate with Functional Genomics, Bioinformatics, and Immunology Pharmacology groups to drive building AbbVie Immunology new target engine. The successful candidate for this position must have extensive experience in discovery and translational research in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry and/or academic medicine, with an emphasis on the development of therapeutics for the treatment of autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases such as IBD.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Review and prioritize the new targets identified through patient-centric bioinformatics approach.
Use genetics and genomics knowledge and tools for target selection
Serve as target champion or project leader to lead 1 or 2 early discovery projects and develop target validation workplan for targets prioritized.
Develop relevant biochemical and cellular assays and PD models, and work closely with in vivo Pharmacologists to enable preclinical POC in translational disease models.
Analyze data and present work in various settings of internal meetings to enable transition decision.
Position will be hired based on level of experience.
PhD, MS, or BS in biological sciences or closely related field with 4-6+ years (PhD); 10-12+ years (MS); or 12-14+ years (BS) of industry or postdoc experience.
Must have a deep understanding of utilizing genetics and genomics approaches to inform target selection and validation for complex human diseases.
Must be able to formulate mechanism and therapeutic hypothesis for autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases such as IBD, and develop target validation workplan.
Must have a deep understanding of the requirements and processes to advance promising early targets through relevant in vitro and ex vivo biological assays, in vivo PD and disease models.
Extensive experience in developing in vitro functional assays and in vivo PD models. Skilled in developing biochemistry and immunology assays and FACS analysis.
Familiar with experimental animal models for autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases.
Energetic and inspirational, with communication skills that enable him/her to be persuasive to a broad and heterogeneous group of stakeholders.
