AbbVie Senior Information Security Architect in Lake County, Illinois


Security is a core part of AbbVie’s Information Technology mission and we are seeking an individual passionate about security to lead our security vision and solution delivery. The Senior Information Security Architect must be a highly skilled and deeply technical individual who is able to strategize, coordinate, and drive multiple security efforts.

The Senior Information Security Architect’s responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with technology and security experts (internal and external) to lead the development and delivery of a maturity roadmap for primary security disciplines
  • Identify business trends within global Pharma, developing and refining AbbVie’s ongoing security strategy to align against business needs; manage AbbVie’s security strategy roadmap accordingly
  • Providing solution or technology guidance to the Information security team, Information Technology, and business areas
  • Identify, define and prioritize information security requirements for business, enterprise, and technical architecture
  • Work with business and IT teams to incorporate security requirements into business, enterprise, and technical architecture
  • Providing a leading voice in defining the security vision and long range security plans, coordinating feedback from Information Security stakeholders
  • Determine and document security requirements for the diverse technologies in our diverse environment
  • Establish security guidelines and standards, aligned with our Policy team
  • Formalize and manage delivery of specific services that are provided to AbbVie by the Information Security team
  • Articulate strategy and maturity progress, track supporting metrics, and communicate to leadership and technical teams
  • Develop workable security standards to support ad-hoc practices from diverse stakeholders
  • Maintain and coordinate team strategy plans
  • Oversee security benchmarks and assessments
  • Management of a small team of service delivery personnel


Qualification Requirements:

  • Deep technical understanding of diverse technologies including networking, operating systems, storage, VPN, and cloud
  • Experience creating technical diagrams
  • Experience summarizing technical information into both detailed and management level reports
  • Practical knowledge of NIST CSF, ISO27001, and other security standards
  • 5 years of full time security experience
  • 10 years of experience within IT (inclusive of security experience), with practical experience leading and implementing an architectural strategy

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an Information Systems-related area of study

  • Demonstrated success working with global, cross-functional teams
  • Experience managing teams
  • Experience securing cloud-based infrastructure platforms such as AWS and Azure
