AbbVie Corporate Communications Manager in Lake County, Illinois

Description:
Assist with AbbVie communications strategies and initiatives that build relationships and connect with media and key external stakeholders to drive a greater understanding and appreciation of AbbVie leadership, business performance and strategy, including pipeline strength, R&D and innovation capability, resulting in media coverage and external awareness that supports, promotes and protects AbbVie’s strategic business objectives, reputation and enhances competitive position and stakeholder perception. This position reports directly to the Director, Corporate Communications.


Responsibilities* * Help deliver best-in-class communications practices that advance AbbVie’s ability to build and sustain its corporate story and competitive positioning. * Engage and influence target media and industry commentators and other external audiences through compelling communications outreach, programs and initiatives. * Collaborate with content group to develop proprietary content that would appeal to wide variety of stakeholders including media. * Consistently engage with external networks to track issues and provide effective reactive media- response capability to efficiently manage external and media issues, with consideration of related division and corporate policies and positions. * Leverage media and social media opportunities around key U.S. and global events and milestones, coordinated within Corporate Communications, and with Commercial and Health, Content Development and Brand Marketing. * Work collaboratively with peers to continually identify high impact external communication opportunities to enhance AbbVie image and reputation; develop strategies and oversee execution of related media and social media programs and initiatives. * Work collaboratively to anticipate issues and trends that generate media interest, develop media messaging contingency plans in partnership with company leadership and division peers to ensure a strong global process to identify, prioritize, manage, leverage or minimize issues through cross-functional planning, preparedness and rapid response protocol. * Review and monitor news and social media coverage to measure reputation anticipate impact and issues to our industry and company. * Create key media communications, such as, Press Releases, Q&A, Social Content etc. * Oversee timely, daily media and news monitoring and critical updates for the company.

Qualifications:
* Bachelors degree in communications, business, journalism or equivalent * 5-7 years experience in communications and media relations; must have served in a spokesperson capacity with media and other external stakeholders * Healthcare/pharmaceutical experience a plus * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Project Management and strong research skills a plus * Strong business acumen with the ability to anticipate company, industry and team needs
